Frequently Asked Questions
What is your photographic style / process?
I take pride in keeping up with and mastering the latest trends in photography. Currently, the sought-after "look" blends a natural appearance with the polished touch of stylized, supplemental lighting. To achieve this, I always bring extra lighting equipment and a range of modifiers, allowing me to customize each image to match the specific feel you, as my client, envision for your brand. I value the collaborative process, ensuring that the final outcome perfectly aligns with the desired ambiance for your branding.
What is the difference between an interior design and architectural photographer vs a real estate photographer who costs less?
1. Purpose and Clientele:
Architectural photographers and real estate photographers specialize in capturing images of buildings and spaces but serve different purposes and clients. Architectural photographers focus on the artistic and aesthetic aspects of architecture, collaborating with architects, designers, and publications. Their photos often feature unique design elements and are used for editorial purposes, portfolios, and design awards. On the other hand, real estate photographers aim to showcase properties to potential buyers or renters. They work primarily with real estate agents, property developers, homeowners, and property management companies, creating images for property listings and marketing materials.
2. Approach and Equipment:
In terms of approach and equipment, architectural photographers use specialized tools and techniques to capture architectural details, lighting, and ambiance. They may utilize natural light or employ complex lighting setups to create artistic compositions. In contrast, real estate photographers prioritize efficiency and speed to meet the demands of the real estate market. They focus on capturing clear, overly-lit images that represent a property's features accurately. This often involves using wide-angle lenses and minimal post-processing done purely in software.
3. Editing and Final Output:
Architectural photographers dedicate more time to post-processing, enhancing the artistic appeal of their images. They may employ techniques like exposure blending for perfect lighting and detail. Real estate photographers, however, focus on basic post-processing to correct color, exposure, and minor imperfections. Their goal is to provide a straightforward and realistic documentative representation of the property, suitable for property listings and marketing materials.
In essence, architectural photographers emphasize the artistic beauty of architecture, while real estate photographers prioritize showcasing properties effectively for sale or rent. Their distinct approaches cater to different clients and purposes within the field of architectural photography.

How long will it take to complete my project?
Upon initiating contact and finalizing a service contract, the process unfolds as follows: We begin with an optional walkthrough or scouting session, included in the fee, to plan the shoot effectively. Subsequently, images are uploaded to an online gallery for the client to select their preferred angles and provide any additional input. The duration of the shoot varies based on the project's complexity, but typically, I am able to capture between 12-16 images per day, contingent on the efficiency of the project's styling phase.
Following the shoot, each image undergoes meticulous hand-blending by me, personally to ensure the highest quality. This intricate process demands careful attention and time. Please anticipate a delivery timeframe of approximately three weeks, as I frequently have other photography sessions scheduled between the editing process. This can be seasonal and times may be shorter, and are rarely increased. Priority processing can be arranged as well for an additional fee.

Do you have a list of how to best prepare for my shoot day?
Preparing for an Interior Design Photoshoot: Enhancing Collaboration for Outstanding Results
In partnership with interior designers, builders, and architects, we aim to capture the beauty of styled and meticulously designed spaces. To ensure our photoshoots are both effective and seamless, we've compiled a set of refined guidelines.
Before the Photoshoot:
- Advance Planning: It's crucial to schedule the shoot well in advance, giving homeowners ample notice. Homeowners don't need to be present, allowing us to work more smoothly. Planning around homeowners' schedules or vacations can be beneficial. While pets add a delightful touch, it's best to feature them at the beginning or end of the shoot to avoid any mishaps with equipment.
- Professional Cleaning: Hiring a professional cleaning service ensures the home is immaculate for the shoot. Clearing away pet hair, beds, and toys helps minimize distractions and sets the perfect scene.
- Setting Expectations: Clearly outline the project's scope, including the number of rooms, square footage, and any need for exterior shots, to facilitate efficient planning.
- Shot List Creation: Develop a comprehensive list of rooms and specific features to be highlighted, ensuring nothing is missed. This list should be shared well before the shoot day.
- Artwork Preparation: For any particular artwork to be featured, use removable hooks for ease of installation, considering the necessary time for secure mounting.
During the Photoshoot:
- Initial Walkthrough: A pre-shoot walkthrough allows us to consider natural lighting and layout, ensuring a well-organized shoot.
- Designer Presence: Your involvement is key for styling each room to perfection. Ideally, styling should be done one room ahead of the photographer for efficiency.
- Styling Props: Have a variety of props on hand, such as flowers, coffee table books, throws, and linens, to enhance room aesthetics. Fresh food and beverages can also add a final touch of warmth to the setting.
- Attention to Detail: Special areas like laundry rooms or closets need to be decluttered or styled with care if included in the shoot.
- Colorful Accents: Introduce contrasting colors through artwork, shelf accessories, pillows, and rugs to add vibrancy and align with your brand and vision.
- Preparation and Organization: If you're not present during the shoot, communicate your vision and requirements clearly. Use a basket or cart to efficiently manage and move personal items.
- Additional Tools: A step stool and a small cleaning kit are useful for making last-minute adjustments and keeping spaces pristine.
After the Photoshoot:
- Final Walkthrough: Confirm that the home is returned to its original state, with all personal items replaced and lights off.
- Appreciation Gesture: A thank you note or flowers for the homeowner shows gratitude for their cooperation and contribution to a successful shoot.
Adhering to these refined tips ensures a streamlined process, capturing the essence and detail of your design work with efficiency and creativity.
Why do you use an assistant for shoots?
Having an assistant during photo shoots is crucial, benefiting both me and the clients. They play a multifaceted role, assisting with various aspects of the process. For instance, they frequently help with furniture rearrangement, a common task in our line of work. Moreover, they provide valuable technical support, aiding in image capture and safely transporting expensive equipment between locations. Over time, working closely together, they become an extension of my thought process, anticipating my needs and streamlining the day's operations for greater efficiency.
Why is a deposit needed for scheduling?
This is important to lock in dates for a photographers busy schedule. Often times when you book a date the photographer is turning down other jobs or scheduling around your shoot. This deposit secures your spot and is industry standard by most high end photographers. There are also up front fees that may be associated with the shoot like paying an assistant and at times a stylist up front on the day of the shoot.
Are there cancellation fees?
A cancellation fee is a standard practice in our industry to compensate for the time and resources allocated when a confirmed photography appointment is canceled or rescheduled on short notice. This fee helps cover the photographer's preparation, scheduling, equipment, and potential lost opportunities due to the reserved time slot. It serves as a fair and reasonable way to address the impact of last-minute changes on our schedule and resources.
Our commitment is to provide exceptional service and deliver high-quality images tailored to your needs. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, but we kindly request your understanding of the cancellation fee, which enables us to continue offering our best services to all our valued clients. Please refer to our booking agreement or contact us for specific details regarding our cancellation policy.
